The Trade Point program started according to the declaration of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held in March 1992.

The Global Trade Points network (GTPNet) was launched officially during United Nations International recommendations on trade efficiency October 1994 to inter connect trade points around the world.

World trade point federation was established in 2001.

The main aim of establishing trade points globally is to increase the ability the world trade using the modern information technology and electronic communications and they help small and medium enterprises to increase their participation in global trade.
